Grenache - 'The Pope's Smoke' - San Benito County

34.00

Farmed sustainably in San Benito County on a southwestern facing slope. From gravelly soper series loam, well drained.

Micro production! Only two carefully cared for barrels and a stainless keg of The Pope’s Smoke.

The grapes were hand picked on August 31st, destemmed as whole berries, and allowed to ferment natively in stainless steel, mostly pumpovers were performed to maintain the integrity of the berries and contribute a semi-carbonic character before pressing 2 weeks later at dryness (no more sugar). The wine was sent to neutral french oak barrels sur lie and aged for ~10months before racking and bottling.

A very fragrant and lighter style of Grenache the wine is sumptuous and fresh. Aromatics of strawberry, fresh linens, and pink pomegranate mark the wine with a fleshy strawberry palate. 13.0%
