Pinot Noir - 'The Dirt Squirt' - Santa Cruz County

36.00

Farmed by a European family from Croatia in Watsonville, Santa Cruz County. From tierra-Watsonville complex, and Watsonville loam soils derived from sedimentary rocks on marine terrace landforms.

Micro production! Only two carefully cared for barrels and a keg of The Dirt Squirt.

The grapes were hand picked on September 2nd, barely getting them off the vine as the Labor Day heat spike began to sear. 30% of the fruit was kept entirely in tact as whole clusters with the remainder destemmed over the top. The fermentation was tended to with pumpovers and punchdowns, and pressed at dryness. Laid down to neutral french oak barrels for ~10months and racked once before bottling. Unfined, and unfiltered.

A wild nose composed of brooding fruit, spice elements, and a floral component. Cherry and blackberry, baking spice and pepper, rose and violet. A taught wine with good acidity. More a masculine pinot than a feminine one. 13.0%
